Snorri Pultvar and the Ice Bear
Snorri recalled that it was Always the children who Asked Pleaded Demanded To hear the story Always last thing at night Always in the dark season Always when the wind howld
Snorri rememberd that it was Always about the ice bear Always the little ones who gasped and gaped To hear the tale As he brought it to life As his words made the bear-man stand among them As his telling filled them with the sweetest fear
Snorri reminded himself as well How when the snuggling brats were finallay asleep He would step out into the raw night Sending his heart out into the blackness Sending his fire out into the cold Sending his hope across te dark wastes To the Ice bear Whom he had really met On the hunting trail Long hard years ago
The Ice bear who was A shape-shifter A hunter A warrior Deep-minded Freind-for-real He taught snorri all his skills Of hunting like a wolf in a pack Or alone like a bear Of wearing the painted rings of magic Of keeping close the runes of power
Snorri in his turn shared the pain Of his brothers death Of his oath of vengeance Of his hunt for the killer Of his wearing of his brothers clothes Untill the right blood was spilled Untill the rjght heart was ripped out Untill the right debt was paid
Snorri could feel the moment When he looked deep into the Ice Bear's eyes Asking what it was he hunted... A woman far to the south Where the seas fight each other Where the whales sing... She is trapped in a pit Held prisoner by a beast I am travelling there To kill the beast To free the woman The creature is reckless I am ruthless But I would die for the woman Without hesitation
Snorri and the Ice Bear took their seperate paths Never to meet again But every time After the story was told once more He sent his soul over the land Like Odin's raven To cry out the All-Fathers strength To call down Thor's might On his friend the Ice Bear That he might free his lady That he might crush the beast That they might smile And live long
